A stereotype is defined as “a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.”
We have all felt them at some point in our lives.
Stereotypes grow to become commonly “known” beliefs about certain social groups or individuals.
Sometimes we are unaware we are stereotyping others.
For example, oftentimes elderly people are stereotyped when seeking employment opportunities or for their driving skills.
Stereotypes and prejudice are synonyms for one another, because, like prejudice, a stereotype is based on prior assumptions and is often created about a person’s race, culture, class, religious beliefs, or gender.
If you’ve ever been stereotyped or if you have stereotyped someone unknowingly, these quotes about stereotypes will give you some context and food for thought.

What did you learn from these stereotype quotes
Some stereotypes are unconsciously present in our minds and create biases we are unaware of.
Has anyone ever said or felt something about you just because of the way you look or talk or where you come from?
Have you ever thought or assumed something about another for the same reason?
When you see an elderly person crossing an intersection, is your thought to admire their willingness to stroll at a speed that works for them, or is it to judge the speed at which they walk because of stereotypes that suggest elderly people are slow and feeble?
We train our minds to make observations and remember details about the things and people we experience.
However, sometimes we fall into the trap of making an assumption about an individual or group that we have little to no experience with to validate our assumption.
It is wise to treat each individual as an individual, fully living in the “present” moment of each experience.
