How To be Accountable for YOU!

Proven Keys to getting you the results you want
I love watching Disney movies (see thoughtful Disney quotes) with my girls.
They would pick the latest movie (or the same movie) and we’ll get cozy on the couch and we’ll watch it.
My older daughter would be in a trance like state watching while my lil one is curious and talks throughout the whole movie about the things that she didn’t understand.
But the one thing they both understood was the moral of the story and after the movie as over we would talk about it.
(While the lil one is still on a rant LOL).
We’ve all somehow and in some sort of way have been influenced by Disney Films as we were growing up.
So in this blog I want to talk about one timeless principle that, if applied, will help you stay accountable to get the results you want from any goal you set to accomplish.
At the heart every story and the core of STRETCHYOURSELF lies this one simple principle:
Don’t let your present and past circumstances define who you are and what you do moving forward.
In others words, don’t place the hope of pending success in the hands of luck or chance.
You create your luck with the decisions you make and the actions you take.
Relying on someone or something to save you only handicap the true power you can release to think clearly, be creative and react quickly.
Instead, charge your momentum through action, and good, positive, game changing things will begin to happen.
How To be Accountable for YOU!
So whether you’re looking to make some major changes in your life or you just want to tweak areas a little, Here are 7 tips to help you unleash your power and potential in order for you to STRETCH your actions into the results you want in life.
1. Be accountable for yourself.
Are you truly holding yourself accountable for the actions and inactions in your life? Answer this question honestly because no one is judging your position in life except you and you know where you want to be.
Staying true to yourself and your goals should not be a chore, but rather look at it as a never ending gift to yourself, a strong mindset that when set into place will ensure you are taking the proper actions towards success, even if you are kicking and screaming along the way.
2. Think as if your life depended on it.
“If it has to be, it’s up to me”…this is a personal quote that I create for myself and use as a mantra in order to shift my mindset into a determined, creative mindset that doesn’t allow for excuses to rest and allow complacency to set in.
When you shift into a determined mindset, you will discover solutions and resources for perceived challenges that you may have believed were out of your control.
If your life depended upon it, would you come up with an idea, solution, or strategy to save yourself? No doubt!
3. When you can’t control your circumstances, don’t let your circumstances control you.
Things happen in everyone life that doesn’t go the way they plan, that doesn’t mean you scrap the whole idea or goal, that means you need to focus on what worked, what didn’t work scrap it, and find another way.
It’s called experience by the way and NOT failure and looking for sympathy for one attempt isn’t going to do you any good.
Thomas Edison attempted over 1000 times to get that one opportunity to make it right and it changed the world!
Let your goal or idea do the same through the energy, focus and action you put behind it.
Remember, whether you are encouraged by this article or someone else, the point is, get out there and do SOMETHING.
4. You have to want it MORE than you don’t want it.
I was playing basketball with my friend in the park one day and it was very windy and as I was coming up to the court he yelled out, “Ron!
The difference in who wins today depends on who wants it the most.”
Not having our usual long range jump shots in the arsenal made us both rely on creative ways to make baskets.
Your goals are the same.
Everything you set out to achieve will exact a certain price from you – energy, effort, patience, persistence.
It’s perfectly natural to want good things in life without paying the price but success comes when you hit that tipping point and began wanting your goal more than you dread the road to reaching it.
5. STRETCH outside of the normal and breakthrough.
Most times we follow the paths that were before us and that’s fine, to get you started.
But in order for you to follow your passion you must blaze your own trail, and that may mean trying something new and different even if it’s uncomfortable and it scares you.
Jim Carrey is a perfect example.
Watching his interview with Oprah, he stated that he would drive his beat up Toyota to Hollywood Hills and while overlooking Los Angeles visualize himself being this big actor and really internalizing the feeling.
Then he pulled out his checkbook and wrote himself a check for $10 million dollars.
In that moment two things happened!
First, he drew a line in the sand with his personal resolve and secondly, he let go of the normal and tried something outside of his routine that he said and I quote “What will this hurt?”
When you discover your own internal power, you will see that you have the right, the ability, to live your best life and create your own reality, and it’s up to you to breakthrough even if what you have to do in faith scares you.
6. Ask Yourself, Am I all in?
We care more for things that we are committed to do, as oppose to doing just enough to get by.
My mentor Jim Shead used to give our seminar team this empowering mini speech before we would meet people.
He wanted us to be all into the people we were helping with no distractions.
He would say, “How can you be all in when you’re distracted by other things going on in your life?
Leave your life outside those doors.
If you are with me you are vested in me as much as I am vested in you and I need for you to be all in.
Own what you are doing in that moment with that person.”
When you own something – no matter what it is, you make an investment that involves sacrifice.
If you are not all in, you can walk away from anything without losing something.
If you are really committed to achieving any goal you set out to accomplish, go all in.
7. Make it happen! Make it so! Engage!
I am a stone cold Star Trek fanatic!
I love Captain Picard’s voice and especially loved when he would ask Data to set a course to an unknown galaxy and he would look out over the deck into space and say, “Let’s see what out there….ENGAGE!”
How do you do that?
How do you make it happen?
It starts by taking the first step…nothing more.
You have the choice to fulfill your dreams or wallow in self-pity, playing the victim game.
The choice is yours, but understand that true success and accomplishment doesn’t come with you achieving the goal, that’s just part of the process.
It is the process that the journey to accomplishment transforms you into a better person.
And guess what?
Once you know that it’s possible, the only limitations you will have are the ones you create yourself.
So……go see what out there for you to accomplishment…Make it so! ENGAGE!
So, if you’re struggling with holding not taking personal accountability, know that you’re not alone.
I’m right here with you, struggling to keep myself accountable as well – we’re in this together.
And it’s not something that you will succeed the first time.
You’ll make mistakes, but the key is don’t be so hard on yourself and keep moving forward.
We’ll get through it.
And this ‘getting through’ will make us stronger.
It isn’t easy now, and it may take us awhile, but it will be well worth it in the end.
